Human Rights at Sea is pleased to announce the publication of the Turkish translation of the Geneva Declaration on Human Rights at Sea.
This important document, which consolidates and advances the protection of human rights in the maritime environment, is now accessible to Turkish-speaking audiences through a peer-reviewed publication.
The Turkish version was translated and prepared for publication by Şeyma Kuş, a Research Assistant at Piri Reis University Faculty of Law and a PhD Candidate at Istanbul University, Institute of Social Sciences, Public Law Program. Her doctoral research focuses on human rights at sea, with particular emphasis on the right to life of seafarers.
During the drafting stage, the translation benefited from the kind review of Prof. Dr. James Selim Ataergin. Subsequently, it underwent a double-blind peer review process and was published in the Piri Reis University Journal of Maritime Law (Vol. 3, Issue 2, December 2024, pp. 289–309). This marks an important step toward strengthening awareness and implementation of human rights protections in Turkish maritime law and practice.

Denizde İnsan Haklarına İlişkin Cenevre Bildirisi Artık Türkçe Olarak Mevcut
Human Rights at Sea, Denizde İnsan Haklarına İlişkin Cenevre Bildirisi’nin Türkçe çevirisinin yayınlandığını duyurmaktan memnuniyet duymaktadır.
Deniz ortamında insan haklarının korunmasını pekiştiren ve geliştiren bu önemli belge, artık Türkçe konuşan okuyucular için hakemli bir yayın aracılığıyla erişilebilir hale gelmiştir.
Bildirinin Türkçe versiyonu, Piri Reis Üniversitesi Hukuk Fakültesinde Araştırma Görevliliğini yürüten ve İstanbul Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Kamu Hukuku Programında Doktora öğrencisi olan Şeyma Kuş tarafından çevrilerek yayına hazırlanmıştır. Şeyma Kuş, doktora çalışmasında gemi insanlarının yaşam hakkı üzerinde yoğunlaşarak denizdeki insan hakları üzerine araştırmalarını yürütmektedir.
Bildiri çevirisinin taslak aşamasında, çeviri Prof. Dr. James Selim Ataergin'in nazik incelemesinden faydalanılmıştır. Ardından çeviri çalışması, çift kör hakem değerlendirme sürecinden geçerek Piri Reis Üniversitesi Deniz Hukuku Dergisi'nde (Cilt 3, Sayı 2, Aralık 2024, s. 289–309) yayınlamıştır. Bu çeviri, Türk deniz hukuku ve uygulamalarında insan haklarının korunmasına ilişkin farkındalığın ve insan haklarına ilişkin uygulamanın güçlendirilmesi yönünde önemli bir adımdır.
