Human Rights at Sea (HRAS) conducted an in-person update briefing for the UN Association Westminster Branch in the UK House of Lords on 12 July 2023.

Nine years ago, CEO David Hammond, was first invited to speak to the Association as part of an initial exposure of what was then a fledgling and developing NGO concept.

The 2014 briefing titled: “Establishing human rights in post-revolution states and international waters” followed the CEO’s previous human rights defender work in Tripoli, Libya, as Counsel to the then National Council for Civil Liberties and Human Rights, and his giving of the 2014 keynote speech for the 12th Annual Ruth Steinkraus-Cohen International Law lecture.

The recent update titled "Who cares about human rights beyond the horizon?" sponsored by HRAS Patron, Lord Robin Teverson, and organised by the Association’s Chair, Mr David Wardrop MBE, was held in Committee Room One and covered the full spectrum of the current work of HRAS.

David Hammond said: “It was a real pleasure to be asked to return to update the Westminster Branch of the UN Association on all that has been achieved by the charity, though it did not seem that nine years had passed!”.

The CEO’s presentation is now available for download.
