Earlier this week, Human Rights at Sea became aware of a video which first appeared on YouTube originating from The Libyan Observer, Libya, concerning the location of women and children at sea off the Tunisian coast by Tunisian fishermen. The unverified video from a phone recording captures the desperate situation of African migrant victims drifting alive at sea. It contains upsetting scenes.
HRAS has decided that the video must be made available to the general public for greater awareness of the desperate plight of migrants in the Central Mediterranean as a matter of public record, and includes an initial accompanying transcript. It notes that YouTube took the video down.
